Volviendo a Casa, "Returning Home" was all about fundamentals. The show consisted of 30 sculptures of all scales featuring my take on the classic Mexican-style chair -  a motif not only reflective of Mexican culture but a representation of how everyone deserves a seat the table. My ancestors brought the family across the Mexican border for a new life. During this process there was an immense amount of washing of culture and identity. I decided to move back to Mexico for some time to rekindle this heritage and find a sense of Mexican identity for myself, for my ancestors.
The chairs small and large are a prideful representation that it is okay to be both associated where we come from, where we currently are, and, ultimately, where we are going. The chairs acted for me as a fundamental reminder of my art practice and foundations. As always, each piece is a love letter, and in this particular case each piece is also an offering, an olfrenda, to those before me.
The show was located inside and out the Lamy Chapel on Bishops Lodge Auberge property with an opening reception 28 April 2023.
